  • What are the programs for which department of cognitive science is advertising for the semester 2024-2025-Semester I?
  • The department of Cognitive Science is advertising for the following PG programs


    • PhD (Cognitive Science)
    • MTech (Cognitive Systems)- 2 year degree
    • MS by research- 2 year degree
    • MS by research- 3 year degree

  • What are important dates for the application process?
    • Application Begins: March 20, 2024 (11:00 AM)
    • Application Ends: April 12, 2024 (02:00 PM)
    • Shortlisted Candidate list declared: Late April (tentatively)
    • MSR/MTech Interviews: 29 April- 3rd May, 2024 (tentatively)
    • PhD Interviews: 21-22 May, 2024 (tentatively)

  • What is the eligibility criterion for applying to the PG programs in the department of cognitive science?
    • Details of the eligibility requirements can be found here
    • In addition to the degree requirements, the applicants need to have a valid score in one of the examinations mentioned in the advertisement or in an equivalent exam.

  • Can I apply to the MS/PhD program without having a valid score in a national level exam?
    • Apart from exceptions mentioned in the PG manual of IIT Kanpur, all full-time/part time applicants need to have a valid score in a national level exam.

  • Can I apply for part-time program in PhD/MS (By Research programs)?
    • Currently we allow part time applications only for the PhD program.

  • Is scholarship provided to PG students in the department of cognitive science?
    • Time bound assistantship is provided to MSR students (for 2 years), MTech students (for 2 years) and PhD students (for 5 years). In turn it is expected that students will perform departmental duties allotted to them.

  • Is COGJET 2024 being considered as equivalent exam for eligibility of applicants?
    • We are considering COGJET 2024 as an equivalent exam for the current year.

  • How will students be shortlisted?
    • Students will be shortlisted based on the score on a National eligibility test. List of shortlisted candidates along with shortlisting criterion will be made available on our webpage.
    • Shortlisted candidates will then undergo the next stages of selection involving a written exam (only for PhD, MS-R don't have to appear for written exam) and an interview.
    • Based on performance in the written exam and interview, the final list of selected candidates will be declared.

  • What is the syllabus for written exam?
    • The written exam will test applicants for research aptitude. For a sample test check this link

  • I have applied for MS (By Research program). Do I also have to appear for written exam ?
    • The written exam is only for PhD, MSR don't have to be appear for written exam.

  • Will the exams be conducted online or offline?
    • The written exam and interview will be conducted offline (if permissible)

  • How to reach the department?
    • You have to enter from Main IIT Gate and continue around 500 meter, and turn right from the first circle (also known as SAC Chauraha) and go to straight till Nursery (Academic Area Gate No. 5) from where the department building (ESB-2) is just 3 min away walk on your right side.
